- Description:
- The Actuarial Foundation has two volunteer-driven tutoring programs. The first program is the Math Motivator's. The Math Motivator's mission is to help close the opportunity gap by providing a math tutoring program that pairs underserved 3rd - 12th grade students with professionals and college students with strong mathematical backgrounds. The goal is to enhance math education for elementary, middle, and high school students who do not otherwise have access to tutors. The second program is the Money Mentors. The Money Mentors is a financial literacy program that empowers young people to make conscious choices about their resources, time, and energy. The mentors will work directly with students, focusing on the basics of tracking and strategizing resources coming in and going out. Important information about becoming a tutor: Tutors are required to complete a Sterling background check. Each tutor works with two students. There are both virtual and in-person opportunities available. Training, resources, and material needed for tutoring will be provided. The time commitment (including prep time) is typically 1 - 2 hours per week. Shorter term and summertime opportunities may also be available. Dates and Times: This information is regarding the virtual tutoring center. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 4 PM - 7 PM EST. The Fall cohort 1 ends 12/14/23, while the Winter cohort 2 begins 1/14/23 and ends 5/30/23.
