- White River State Park is looking for volunteers to help at their biggest catch fishing competition for DNR's Free Fishing Day on June 2nd, 2024. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources hosts a handful of Free Fishing Days every year. On these days, Indiana residents do not need a fishing license to fish the state's public waters. Volunteers will be evaluating participants entries by weighing, measuring, and logging their catches. Volunteers will also help with some event set up tasks an hour before start time. This event will take place at White River State Park on the Urban Wilderness Trail (east bank of the White River, south of New York St). The UWT is a protected native wildlife habitat and monarch butterfly sanctuary with several public trails right in downtown Indianapolis next to IU Indianapolis's campus.
